New viz: Reparations Remain Controversial, but Why?
Spoiler alert: it’s racism.
The #DiversityinData Tableau community project put out six new datasets for the months of November and December. As soon as I saw this data from the Fed, I knew I wanted to visualize income inequality in the U.S. Once I dug into the data, it became evident that Black Americans are at an even larger financial disadvantage than I thought. I’ve always been pro-reparations, but if you need convincing, check out the data. If you’re fuzzy on what reparations are or why we need them, please read Ta-Nehisi Coates’ excellent piece from The Atlantic, “The Case for Reparations.”
